Bigger is better, which is why Audi has grafted an extra 130mm onto the length of its flagship A8. The extra length has been added between the wheels to liberate class-leading space for rear seat passengers. However, despite the extra metal, Audi claims its use of aluminium means the bodyshell weighs 40 per cent less than one made from steel.

The rear doors have been made longer, to aid access to the luxurious surroundings within. Other styling tweaks include a different grille, greater use of chrome and new exhausts.

The optional two-seat layout – which comes standard on the range-topping W12 model – features electrically adjustable heated and cooled seats. The front passenger seat features a leg rest mounted on its back and can also be moved forward from the rear if more legroom is needed.

Between the seats is a full-length console which can be specced with options like a folding table or fridge. Also on the options list are 10.2-inch screens for rear-seat passengers, a panoramic roof and a 19-speaker Bang&Olufsen stereo.

The A8L will only be available with a W12 engine at launch, but the remaining powerplants from the regular A8 range will be offered by the end of the year. The 12-cylinder unit has been thoroughly revised from the previous model, now displaces 6.3-litres instead of 6.0, and features direct injection.

The unit produces 493bhp and 625Nm, ensuring potent performance. The 0-62mph sprint takes just 4.9 seconds and top speed is limited to 155mph. Fuel economy also increases by 12 per cent, to 23.5mpg.

The car will be launched at the Beijing Motor Show next week, and UK order books open on July 30th. Prices are yet to be announced.

Masina asta e varful de gama, sa arate ce pot in domeniul masinilor de lux. Nu cred ca'si fac ei planuri f mari de vanzari pentru modelul asta cu W12. Sincer, asta nu e masina sa o conduci singur, desi, personal, daca as lua masina pe care sa o conduca un sofer, nu as lua W12 asta
Bine, ca design e aproape identic cu celelalte modele.
Interiorul mi se pare ca are o singura scapare: "marmura" aia sau ce'o fi mi se pare aiurea. in rest nu as gasi ceva de comentat
La exterior doar farurile cu LED mi se par aiurea, insa remarca asta e valabila si la alte modele/marci

chiar este nevoie de tot ce este acolo eu nu cred , dar este frumos , urmatoarea masina sper sa fie S8.

Mie chiar mi se pare singura masina din clasa de lux care nu a copiat de-a lungul existentei sale nici o alta masina. Chiar daca a ajuns o problema de kitsch datorita inflatiei de cocalari care le conduc, masinile audi au avut intodeauna un design curat dar original.

Personal, imi placea cum arata generatia veche mai mult, aspectul angular nu avea atatea tonuri de agresivitate ca modelul nou, gen led in forma Y, dar sunt convins ca cu ceva peste masina care o inlocuieste (nu cu foarte mult).

Si totusi, in situatia ipotetica sa am bani in prostie si sa nu stiu cum sa scap de ei, mi-as lua cel mult un A6 fara pretentii de S sau RS ( eventual echivalentele de la MB sau BMW ) iar cu restul mi-as alege o masina sport veritabila cu doua usi.
