Initial am vrut sa pun asta la "It's now time to turn off", dar pana la urma, pentru ca pe mine m-a facut sa zambesc, chiar daca amar, am hotarat sa adaug in topicul asta un fragment dintr-o discutie a englezilor, pe un forum al orasului Reading, despre cum e "de porc" sa iti duci copilul cu masina la scoala (imi cer scuze ca e in engleza, dar cica romana nu stiu oamenii:))):

Si daca ati vedea autobuzele la ei (cei care au fost in UK stiu, chiar si cele din Londra): camere peste tot, soferul are nu mai putin de 7-8 camere montate in tot autobuzul, iar imaginile se succed cam la 2-3 secunde. Daca surprinde ceva (el fiind intr-o cabina securizata), suna la politie si aia il asteapta la urmatoarea statie. A, si autobuzele merg dupa un orar fix, adica e afisat in statie si daca scrie ca la 9:19 minute trebuie sa vina, pai atunci vine (pe incercatelea, ca am avut nevoie).

He did a drive of 3 miles round trip to school at 7:30am and it took him 50-60mins but added an hour on his journey to work and he was moaning at this – his view was that all delivery trucks etc, should not be allowed on the roads especially around schools as they held the traffic up and made it difficult to get his large 4 x 4 through
He lived in a highly populated expensive area of London and most of his journey was along a main A and then a lot of time was spent waiting for a gap to park as close to the gates as possible
When it was pointed out that he could walk there and back home in half the time then drive to work the opposite direction without problems his answer was – why should he, and did you expect his children to walk a whole 1.5 miles on the dirty streets – oh and they where both overweight, and so was he!

. Si se pare ca nu numai noi avem taranii nostri (iar Reading e un oras mediu, nici mare precum Londra/Manchester, dar nici unul cu 3 strazi).

But yes, I have observed over the years parents who lived next to each other who came into school IN SEPARATE cars. No - they were not women who worked - it would be straight home. They sometimes arrived in pyjamas. So in that respect, it was daft and made me cross. My daughter goes on a public bus and then her father picks her up - very late, because she is a day boarder. Traffic at that time is undramatic. But a lot of women do work and drop off their children so they can zoom to work. It's stressful and rushed. But I see a lot of children in Caversham walking to school - including some very small children who nevertheless look very mature.
Perception of danger is out of proportion to the actual danger - but you can't blame parents for being protective. You do realise what you have to do to produce a child? None of us want to go through that again.
